The Need

Camp Indicoso is the only camp & conference center property of the Indiana Conference without a natural water feature connected to it. Once prominent on the camp property, the original fifteen-acre lake drained away over forty years ago into the limestone caves and caverns beneath the camp. Until recently, the technology and resources to repair, build, and ultimately restore the lake were not feasible. Thanks to synthetic materials, we can now cover and seal the lakebed floor.

The Vision

This victory goal will redevelop a lake at Camp Indicoso in Bedford, Indiana (15 minutes south of Bloomington).

Camp Indicoso offers a classic camp experience replete with outdoor adventures (such as high and low ropes courses, zip lines,a swimming pool, and hiking trails) as well as opportunities for students to feel the presence of the Lord, reflect in his Word, and experience his amazing creation. Staff and volunteer leaders teach and explore the Gospel with students through worship, stories, small group discussions and feature activities.

As Camp Indicoso continues to be a popular destination for church camps, retreats and even private events, it is important that the lake be restored properly, providing avenues to continue to draw guests to this exquisite camp property. It will also provide more spaces for individuals to find quiet retreat, explore God’s creation, and to fellowship at play.

The proposed redevelopment of the lake will utilize portions of the original lake bed and the dam; it will also include:

  • Reviving the original views and eco-system lost when the lake drained
  • A “nature walk” path around the lake will allow campers to discover and experience plants and wildlife up close
  • Three inter-connected water areas, give campers a chance to enjoy a natural swimming pool, a sandy beach, and program features that draw and engage
